Complete

After finishing my Magazine and looking back over all my other posts with my step by step ideas, i have found that the finished product is nearly exactly how i wanted it too be.

Considering the audiences response..
Having Angelina on the cover of the magazine, i have deeply considered semiotics.
The cover is purely dominated by Jolie and the denotations of this would be because she is the main character o the film, therefore should be the centre of attention. Nevertheless, connotations of having this image on a MENS magazine is because she is renown for her sex appeal and in my opinion a BEAUTIFUL woman so in that sense it would fit that she was on the front of the mens magazine, as she is something im sure they would have no objection looking at. Along with this, having a board of photographs which i have said to be from a photo shoot with Jolie inside the magazine- this goes beyond the magazine and is bringing her sex appeal to light (having images of half naked woman in a men's magazine is common).

Evaluation
Overall, i think my magazine cover was a success and visually appealing, as it met all the demands related with men's magazines...

  • I used dark, masculine (stereotypically) colours such as blacks, browns and blues as they generally get used for the publication of magazines for men.
  • I based my cover on a popular action film, with not only the action being appealing to men but also the fact a attractive female is the main focus of the cover.
  • The cover promotes issues that are purely of interest to men such as the caption 'get a six-pack in 1 month' rather than gossip or agony aunt columns which you would find in a female magazine.
  • i also considered the language when designing my cover. Generally, the writing on a man's magazine tends to be very bulky in its description, not only it's appearance, but also is very punchy and straight to the point. Whereas a woman's magazine would have lots of writing from celebrities points of view and alot of what you are going to find inside the magazine. Men's magazines tend to be dominated by images, especially if they are magazines to do with women or films.

The image

The image i chose to use is one of Angelina Jolie (the desirable woman) as featured in the film wanted itself. It is an image of her displaying guns with action going on behind her. This fits in with the 'mens magazine' theme as i understand the codes and conventions of an action film designed for a male audience- generally incorporate guna and action into their films.
Furthermore, the colours used in the image are all very dark and shaded colours, which are generally apply to men's magazines.
Also, as 'traditional' in a mens magazine, pictures of sexy women is always present! Therefore, to run with this, i decided to incorporate pictures of Angelina Jolie, as a sneak peak to what is too be expected inside the magazine, having small images of her - which i took from google images.
